Constellation

IB1.io is a very light-touch online tool (software-as-a-service solution) designed to facilitate networking across communities of practice. It enables members to discover each other’s skills and interests, enhancing opportunities for starting new projects, co-bidding, and sharing knowledge across different fields. This helps build professional relationships and breaks down traditional silos. See below on “How to tag!“. It connects people who are involved who have been invited and opted-in to join.

Members can customise their profiles with information they would typically exchange in a professional setting—like workplace details, interests, and contact information that is already public. Profiles can be tagged with keywords and areas of interest, making it easier for members to find each other.

Participation is by invitation only. Please contact constellation@ib1.org if you would like to be considered.

We have a LinkedIn group as a non-public discussion space.

NB: Members do not make any personal contact details public, rather they link to existing social media sites such as LinkedIn. There is no mechanism for any members to contact each other directly using the service – only via linked social media accounts.

How to tag!

Add a tag about anything you are involved with (a domain, an interest, anything that you might want to connect with someone about).

If you have been involved in a project at any time, please add the IB1-tag (e.g. IB1-PERSEUS, IB1-OPEN-ENERGY).

IB1 team members tag themselves with IB1-CORE, and IB1 alumni use IB1-ALUMNI.

Note on IB1 processes for this service

Icebreaker One (IB1) is dedicated to demonstrating best practices in data governance as part of its mission. This commitment extends to the management of data within its own communities, referred to as “Constellations” or “Icebreakers.” These communities unite individuals who support IB1’s mission of achieving net-zero emissions and act as hubs for sharing expertise and fostering collaborative efforts.

Member emails are required only for administration and are available to the system’s managers.

To ensure the safety and privacy of this shared information, a Data Protection Impact Assessment has been conducted. This assessment identifies potential risks and outlines strategies to mitigate them, ensuring that members can network and share their details confidently. The system is designed with built-in safeguards to prevent misuse, fostering a trusted environment for collaboration.

Who uses it?

There are two main types of users for the service:

  1. Users (Community Members): These are individuals from the community who have opted to use the platform.
  2. Admins: A select few staff members have administrative access. They use a username and password to access the administration interface, which allows them to manage the system’s operations. This includes tasks like editing user profiles or disabling accounts if necessary.

Leaving

  • Users can request the deletion of their entire profile. This process is managed by admins and must be completed within 30 days of the request. This process will be enabled as self-service in future releases.
