Last week we convened the October Open Energy Steering Group meeting. The Steering Group is comprised of a wide range of industry leaders and subject matter experts, representing a cross section of private and public players with a unique contribution. The Steering Group plays a critical role in Open Energy’s development, providing us with a sector perspective that ensures that Open Energy is designed for and with the energy industry.
We discussed the upcoming Digital Spine work, and Icebreaker One’s response to the Government’s review of net zero call for evidence (see our response here). The Steering Group heard updates from others on how their data and digitalisation work was developing and about some upcoming workshops. The Icebreaker One team shared product updates for Open Net Zero and how it ties into carbon / ESG reporting and started an open discussion on some ideas on how the terms of reference can be updated to reflect where the Group is heading.
Key insights from the Steering Group:
- It is essential that all development have an open approach
- Engaging and understanding the value of unlocking data flows and how that benefit scales is key
- Energy security should not be pitched against the transition to net zero, they become complementary and support each other
How you can you support:
- In line with its collaboration principles and Net Zero mission, Icebreaker One is making an open call for collaboration with organisations in the development of the Digital Spine: Open call for collaboration please share widely: https://ib1.org/2022/09/08/open-call-for-collaboration-digital-spine/
