IB1 Trust Services provide the assurance, interoperability, and governance tools that enterprises need to share and use data safely, lawfully, and competitively.
We help businesses (both regulated and non-regulated), data and software platforms, and data users implement secure, auditable data-sharing frameworks. This reduces compliance costs, accelerates innovation, and builds verifiable trust between organisations.
IB1 Trust Services are operated for and on behalf of Members. They enable the implementation of Schemes which have been co-defined through an Icebreaking process.
They include aiding implementation and operation of
- Search – an open catalogue which indexes open metadata
- Assurance and verification – the foundations of trusted data
- Data sensitivity classes – helping to assess and manage risk
- Trust Frameworks – for Scheme implementation
Trust Frameworks enable the continuous verification of organisations, and their APIs, so that Members can connect and share data in a secure, reliable and ongoing manner. We work with organisations including Barclays, Lloyds Group, Sage, National Grid, and SSE, helping them manage trusted data access within and across sectors.
For businesses, IB1 Trust Services provide the legal, technical, and operational backbone for safe, scalable data sharing between organisations. Designed to support compliance with UK Smart Data and international governance standards, these modular services include access control, support consent and permissioning, legal framework execution, data integrity, auditability, and monitoring.
Delivered through a completely open-source infrastructure, and embedded in sector Schemes like Open Energy and Perseus, IB1 Trust Services reduce friction, ensure compliance, and unlock innovation, enabling markets to share both open and sensitive data lawfully, transparently, and at scale.
For government, regulators and regulated operators, IB1 Trust Services are a transparent and cost-efficient delivery mechanism for assured, lawful data sharing between organisations within and accross sectors. Developed to support UK Smart Data Schemes and aligned with the Data Use and Access Act, they provide the legal, technical, and operational infrastructure needed to implement policy at scale. This includes modular services for access control, legal liability, data integrity, auditability, support of consent management solutions and real-time monitoring. These services enable secure interoperability without requiring centralised data platforms, reducing implementation risk while supporting decarbonisation, market innovation, and regulatory compliance.

Continuous verification of organisations, APIs, and permissions through the IB1 Assurability Framework, designed to meet enterprise and regulatory needs on a voluntary or mandatory basis. - Data sensitivity and classification
A standard model for assessing data sensitivity, to assess and manage risk across data types and use cases. This simplifies governance and supports compliance reviews. - Open source
All our work (from API to consent standards) are openly licensed, with no vendor lock-in. - Legal and policy modules as re-usable libraries
Working with Members, we co-develop Schemes: the reusable rulebooks and clauses covering consent, liability, delegation, and dispute resolution reducing legal friction and ensuring consistency across markets. - Public registry of assured participants
